Well the experiment will have to begin tomorrow, well tonight.
I had my trusty crock pot all ready and filled with beans. It got warm... and died.
Apparently the outlets in my kitchen do not like beans.
So my well soaked beans are now cooking in a large pot on my stove.

Last night Beloved did not want me to heat up the hosue for dinner, it was 85 inside (90 out). So instead with it just being he and I we went to the ice cream/burger place and got a sandwich instead.
The beans will be cooked and eaten tonight with the salad and the chapatis, and the brown rice!
Oh and I discovered i was out of chili powder, so i added paprika with the cumin, and pepper, with a pinch of salt.

On a side note, today is the 3rd day we have had a chicken in our house!
As most of you know we live in the country, sort of a mini ranch community. Most lots are an acre (you can do a LOT with an acre!) Well our neighbor has a 3 acre or 4 acre lot, with 2 houses on it. He raises goats and chickens. One of his hens decided to visit us on Saturday.

The first time Beloved heard an awful racket and went to investigate, the silly bird was in our bed room trying to get out we think. The cats were sleeping through the whole fiasco. I tried to get pictures but nothing came out. Later we discovered said hen left us a gift, an egg, in the cat's box!

Yesterday the hen, maybe the same or not, was back. This time investigating the living room, and taking running jumps at the screen door, when she bounced off she would back up a few feet and head for it again.
I was finally able to shoo her away long enough to open the door so she could quit knocking herself brainless. When DS came to relieve me at work he said she had got in again, he watched her this time jump in through his unscreened window.

With it being 95 all the windows, screened or not are open, as we have no ac. Now, the young man doing our yard work just came in and said in the over grown brush, is a hen, sitting on a pile of eggs!

MMM I can smell food cooking now! I have been craving rice and beans for a week! Robyn, you need to do red beans and black beans next! I need ideas for the meals AFTER beans and rice!
Hugs y'all!

That sounds like if it turns out fairly thick that you could fill soft tortillas, add some cheese, cover with the hm enchilada sauce that's somewhere on PH. And make enchiladas. Otherwise with it being so hot grill some chicken or something, and use the rice and beans as a side dish. Now I'm hungry lol!

Mel,

Honestly, we are very boring here, so usually what we do for the beans and rice after the first meal, is just eat them the same way, meal after meal.

All different kinds of beans and rice combinations can be turned into:
- burritos
- enchiladas
- tacos
- soup
- casserole
- spaghetti sauce

And, cheese, sour cream, and salsa makes everything taste better. ;-) We eat leftover beans and rice in a bowl with cheese, sour cream and salsa, yum. You could even use tortilla chips to scoop it all up.
