Both of these have given me a huge boost in my joy department.

The first is a book, recommended to me by my friend Dani. I love Dani, she is a light, bright spot in my life. We are very different though. When she suggested this book, I figured I would give it a test and I am so glad I did!
The book is Julia's Hope by Leisha Kelly. It is Miss Kelly's 1st book, and #1 in a series. I loved it so much and even identified with one of the main characters. In fact, the 2 main characters sound an awful lot like my Beloved and I. This book made such an impact that I ordered the 2nd off ebay the night I finished the first.
This is the story of Julia and Samuel, after the depression took all their earthy goods, and most of Samuels self worth, and how God, through a woman named Emma, began to heal their marriage and their lives. Give it a try, it is a fantastic book. I am counting the days (4 more) until book 2 should arrive!

The 2nd thing, and I do not remember where I heard of this. I remember vague references here and there but no direct thing. Is Leslie Sansone's Walk away the pounds. Ladies if you need exercise, this is your ticket. On her home page (Leslie Sansone (http://www.walkathome.com/) ) is even a one mile walk video you can begin with!

I know my weight was at about 218, and I do not know that I have lost any. What I do know is that in the 2 weeks I have been plugging away, I have managed to get to where I walk the whole 1st mile (I have the 3 mile dvd) with no pain. I had a lot of pain at first, in fact it took me a month of on and off work to get to the point I could even do the mile. My goal was to do it 3 days a week, well today I hit that goal already for this week! I wake up and even if I do not feel like doing much, am achy and so on (most days) I have discovered if I just do it, I feel so much better. I even have energy to do dishes after supper, before I petered out by 3 pm and barely managed to get dinner on the table, forget doing dishes. My pain is down, my attitude is better, I feel like I am walking straighter. I plan to begin monitoring my bp daily after work too to see if I have changed it.

There is no excuse now, she has the 1 mile (one mile is better than none!) right on her site. There are no long movements so you can do it right there at your pc! Even if you can not do the whole mile (I keep forgetting to time it, but i think it takes 20 minutes) thereis no reason you can not do some of it. Its free and its there, let's go!

Saturday I plan to begin the 2 mile, and I can not wait!:dance3:

I love Leslie Sansone's systems - I have bought some, and I get some from the library now and then to add variety. And I'm reading Emma's Gift right now - because of Dani's recommendation! I didn't realize that Julia's Hope was the first book (based on dates in my library's database, I thought the Emma book came first), but I have the Julia book too - so I'll go back and read it as soon as I'm done with this one.

I just finished that whole series of books and they were awesome and very inspiring - a great example of how to have a good attitude during tough times!

Ok Mel, you have sparked my interest in both things! I'll see if my library has the book and I'll check out that website on walking. Just so happened that Desiree and I have been talking about walking more. She had been walking her dd to and from school and noticed she had lost weight. We've been talking about, 3 yrs from now, walking some of the Appalacian Trail. It's soooo hot right now that I'll do my walking at night by flashlight.

Mel, thank you for the review of thw wealking site. It may be JUST what I was looking for. I was needing some kind of inspiration to actually use my tredmill.. that may be it!

I've requested the books at the library as well. They sound right up my alley!

Leslie Sansone walk at home videos are great! If you have digital cable, she currently has a 1 mile walk, 2 mile walk and 3 mile walk on the Exercise TV On Demand station. The 3 mile walk is a challenge but you feel *so* good after wards!!!

Best of luck with your walking!

Love love love the Waltham books! She really knows how to draw me in with those characters!

I have a friend who started doing Walk Away the Pounds a few years ago and lost a lot of weight (She started out as a size 18 and is now a 4 I believe). She sent her story in to Leslie Sansone and got to be in one of the videos. Pretty neat stuff.

I bought two of Sansone's DVD's at walmart...I didn't read this very thoroughly the first time around about there being a free workout online...but just in time b/c now I do not have a tv w/ dvd where I do my workout (living room) but DO have a computer. Yea! I will try this...I had walked to her dvd's for a couple of weeks...felt great...lost some weight...then got super busy and quit...ugh...motivated to start again (as my pumpkin dark choc chip cookies are in the oven and cream cheese frosting awaiting ha ha all things in moderation ;)
